Newspaper Article: Student Natasha's image to feature in 'Big 12' Calendar
SOUTHERN Regional College Schools Partnership student Natasha Hawthorne had cause to celebrate recently when it was revealed that one of her images was successful in The Aspects of Armagh Big 12 Photography competition.
Natasha's winning image will feature in the 2016 calendar of competition organisers, Armagh company Instant Print.
One day each week Natasha and fellow students from City of Armagh High School attend Southern Regional College as part of the Schools Partnership Programme. It was while taking part in a Creative Photography class with SRC that Natasha took her successful image, which depicts the Railway Memorial situated on The Mall.
SRC Photography Lecturer Andy Potts described Natasha as having a very good photographic ' creative capability, which she displayed throughout her time on the course. The Big 12 Photography Competition attracts entries from amateur photographers, who this year submitted images on the theme 'Aspects of Armagh'. The competition attracted over 100 entries this year.
A spokesman for competition organisers Instant Print stated: "Natasha's photo captured the emotion of the statue. The event, which the statue represents, was a very sad time and the position of Natasha's photo was able to capture this in one single photo."
"Shadow surrounds the statue whereas the sunshine highlights it, making the centre piece stand out from the image. We had six in-house judges, and Natasha's photo received five thumbs up out of six!"
Natasha commented: "Our class trip to The Mall was one of the highlights of the year. I was sad when I looked at the statue, but I liked the colours and especially the basket of flowers in the girl's hand. Mr Potts told me to take a number of images of the statue. I was really pleased when I heard that my image had been successful and I can't wait to see the calendar."
Natasha's image will feature in the Instant Print calendar and she will also receive 30 Christmas cards with her image on the front.
The Calendars will be available from Instant Print in mid-November and are free to anyone interested.
